The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) has updated information reflecting recent changes to the laws. In most areas of Maryland, minimum wage rates are $8.75 per hour, effective since July 1, 2016. Next year, on July 1, 2017, the minimum wage will increase to $9.25 per hour, and on July 1, 2018, that rate will increase to $10.10 per hour.
In Montgomery County, the minimum wage rate increased to $10.75 per hour onJuly 1, 2016, and will increase to $11.50 per hour on July 1, 2017. In Prince George’s County, the minimum wage rate goes from $9.55 per hour to $10.75 per hour on October 1, 2016. Next year, on October 1, 2017, the rate goes to $11.50 per hour. The DLLR also provides information on overtime rates (generally 1.5 times the usual rate for hours over 40 per week,) and exceptions/exemptions to these rules. Employers are required to post information on wage and overtime laws. Additionally, employee pay records need to be retained for 3 years. For more information, visit the DLLR website at dllr.state.md.us.
